League of Women Voters launching Civic Buzz discussion series

The League of Women Voters Minneapolis is launching a new monthly current events discussion series, The Civic Buzz, on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at the Black Forest Inn.

The first event will feature a discussion of the book, “Running From Office: Why Young Americans are Turned off to Politics,” by Jennifer Lawless and Richard Fox.

Matthew Bergeron of the law firm Larkin Hoffman will also speak to the group about his experiences as a candidate, campaign manager and field organizer for Minnesota campaigns.

Bergeron served as policy staff for the Minnesota House of Representatives and has managed many legislative races. He also sought the DFL endorsement for state House 64B seat in 2014.

The events will be held the second Tuesday of each month.

“We hope to bring people together for meaningful dialogue on governmental and voter issues that affect us all,” said Marion Hall, co-president of the League of Women Voters Minneapolis.

The event will start at 5:30 p.m. with a discussion at 6:15 p.m. The Black Forest Inn is at 1 E. 26th St.
